This application gives users the ability to download and solve the freely available online crosswords provided by the Guardian newspaper. The application works only for the following types of crossword puzzles offered by the Guardian: "Cryptic", "Prize", "Quiptic", and "Everyman".

The application analyzes the free online crossword provided by the newspaper and converts them into an interactive format.

Implementation features:

1. Download and cache the crosswords for later use, even when not connected to the Internet.

2. List of crosswords are downloaded for every month; and are retained in the device. This is intended to reduce the data traffic to/from the network.

3. Three modes to view and interact with the crossword. (1) Grid view: You can see the entire grid in this view. In this view, you can tap on the clue to edit the solution. (2) List view: You can see the list of clues and partial answers that are entered thus far. In this view, you can tap on a clue to edit the solution. (3) Edit mode: You can enter this mode by tapping on the clue in the Grid/List view. You can edit the solution in this view.

4. GRID VIEW: Touching the left corner and right corner of the area in which the clue is displayed will allow sequential access to clues.

5. GRID VIEW: Tap the clue to edit the solution for that clue. Similarly, tap the clue to get back to grid view (from edit view).

6. GRID VIEW: Random access to clues can be obtained by swiping a finger across the cells of that clue (horizontal for across clues and vertical for down clues).

7. EDIT VIEW: Two arrows appear below the cells for that clue. Using the right and left arrow, the cell for which the letter is entered may be moved.

8. Ability to solve a clue partially by simply using spaces (or any non-alphabet character).

9. Automatic saving of solved clues so that the user can return to a crossword at a later time.

10. Online resources for help from within the application. Simply tap on the Help (on the top left) when playing a crossword, you will have six online resources for helping you solve the crossword. The Help screen behaves much like a browser.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO USERS: When you are using the app in the Grid mode (where you can view the crossword grid), you can tap on the clue to go to the edit view to change the solution. [Note that due to restricted screen space on the iPhone/iPod touch, the interaction is designed this way. You are indeed editing in the actual squares, just that the other squares are not shown. Also, the vertical grids are put horizontally for convenience.
