Chess4 is a fun multiplayer chess game for the iPhone and can be played with 2 or 4 players. Chess4 has 4 game types built in. They are: Normal, Suicide, Crazyhouse and Bughouse. All game types are played on one device except Bughouse, which is played over a Bluetooth connection with two *iPhones / iPod Touches.


Normal:
This is a game of chess with normal rules including castling, en passant and stalemate. Other rules such as the fifty-move rule and impossible checkmate are left to the player’s discretion.

Suicide:
Suicide chess (also known as 'antichess' or 'take me') is a chess variant where the first player to lose all their pieces is the winner. The rules of check and checkmate do not apply and a player must take an opponents piece if possible.

Crazyhouse:
In Crazyhouse chess, captured enemy pieces are added to ones reserve. In any turn, a player may drop a piece on the board rather than moving a piece. Pawns can be dropped on any row and keep their rank once promoted.

Bughouse:
Bughouse chess is a 4 player variant of crazyhouse that uses 2 chessboards. Each chessboard is on a separate device. Each team consist of a white player and a black player.

Rather than a captured piece going to a players own reserve line, it goes to the players ally on the other device.

The first player to win causes the whole team to win.

If the first game is a draw (or if it disconnects) then the second continues to play.

To play Bughouse, the players will need to turn on Bluetooth found in Settings > General > Bluetooth.

The game settings are specified on the host device by going to 'Host Wireless 2v2 Game'. Once the game settings are set, push 'start' on the host device followed by 'Join Wireless 2v2 Game' on the client.

*Note: Bughouse is unavailable to first generation iPod touches / iPhones, as they do not have Bluetooth
